My new favorite song.

For those of you who haven't been over there recently, I suggest that you take a quick detour back over to Rob's blog. Out of the dozens of songs he has sent me in the course of our new friendship (we've GOTTA be up to "dozens" by now, right?), there was one that I truly, truly loved: Ryan Montbleau's "Just Perfect." And you can hear it right now at http://stateofrob.blogspot.com/ . Then come back and tell me what you think.

(But don't heap TOO much praise on his musical tastes; we had to go through a lot of songs before achieving success with this one. A LOT.)

I don't like it. Too "unplugged" for me... and the guy sounds like Tracy Chapman. His voice is too quavery. I couldn't even finish the song.

But I did just realize that Rob is from Boston, and I LOVE BOSTON ROB from Survivor and more recently The Amazing Race. I LOVE him.

I thought Tracy Chapman too. But I thought it was good, Melissa

Hmm... I'm questioning you people's musical tastes. He is a SICK guitarist.

Hey I didn't say I didn't like it, I thought it was good. Melissa

That's what I told him, Missy; that YOU liked it.

I loved the music before he started singing; the vocals is what made me cringe.

I think she's already moved on to a new favorite song... 'Cannonball' by Damien Rice.

SO GOOD. Thanks, BFF.

(Renee, after your trashing of Ryan's voice, you are hereby relieved of best friend duties.)

Renee said...

LOL. Okay, thanks.

Can I hear Cannonball on your blog, Rob?

Rob said...

negative... she'll have to send it to you

And where the hell is Jeff when I need him most? I bet he doesn't like that song either.

Jen, send me Cannonball!

What classification IS this music? I've never heard of any of these people... actually Damien Rice rings a bell, but I don't know why.

He had a song in the move Closer

Jeff's too busy being a butt to come to the blog right now, but leave him a message at the beep and he'll call you back later.

BEEEPPPP

What song from that movie was it?

OK I'm sending it to you, Renee. If it doesn't come to your inbox, check bulk mail and trash--when I get big attachments, they automatically get routed to my trash. But maybe that's just a Yahoo thing.

I think it was 'I Remember'.

Renee said...

I got it, thanks! MUCH better than the other one... not bad, but still too mellow and sleepy or something for me.

Tell Jeff to quit being an ass; I need him to have my back in this musical debate!

To answer your question, Renee, I think I would classify this as "alternative". Of course, to me, "alternative" means "anything I don't normally listen to."

I have to say that I liked it. The guitar work is great (not Eddie Van Halen or Joe Satriani great, that's a whole other convo though),but still very good! I absolutely loved the lyrics too, very deep and rather soulful really. And I think it belongs in more of a folksy type category, not so much an alternative song, IMO.
Jen, I'm with ya on this one, it gets a 1 and 1/2 thumbs up!

I really like the first song, but I love cannonball. Melissa

Renee said...

Yeah Nikki, I was stuck between "easy listening" and "weird or Indie or something"
Folksy is a good word :-)

Jen said...

Folksy makes me think of Kumbaya, though.

Anna said...

Kumbiya means Come by Here in Swahili.

Renee said...

Ooh, look at Anna, bustin some culture on our asses!

Okay, if "folksy" isn't a good word, then I stand by my previous category suggestion: "weird or Indie or something"

Really all I can do when I drop by is laugh... that's about it. Sign me up for the blog party, I'm sure I'll get a kick out of it.

Renee said...

Not if you're getting your kick at our expense! Although I'm SURE that your laughter is because we're genuinely funny and cool, not because you feel superior to us...

Renee said...

But seriously Rob, what category is that music in?

Anna said...

We're constantly laughing at each other's expense. Why should our droppers-by be left out? ;)

Renee said...

LOL; good point Anna :-)
