Star Wars as Political Commentary?
I saw the new Star Wars when I was out of town. I was raised with the ewoks as a Star Wars fan from birth so it's kind of sad to see it come to an end.
While I watched, my liberal-Democrat mind thought it detected a political commentary on the state of democracy in the US today: We've got the Senate, the figure head of the Senate has increased powers because of a war that some don't feel was justified, etc.
My husband thinks I'm crazy but what do those of you who've seen it think?

I'm not into the movies either, but I watched them all to get up to speed to go see this one with Jeff.
Yeah, you really cant just watch Episode 1 or 2 (3 is the one that just came out) and then say you dont like SW. From what I hear from the hard core fans, 1 and 2 aren't nearly as good as the originals (4-6). I have to say, those ones WERE pretty good. So at least TRY one of the other ones, maybe.
There were a couple of lines in the movie, Anna, that could apply to the state of our politcal system today...too bad I don't remember any of them. =-) But I remember thinking, hmmm......
Whether the political statement is intentional or coincidental, though, I'm not sure. But like I said on the phone, there have been others to notice the parallelism to today's society. So no, it's not just in your head.

Renee - I am totally with you. I saw them when I was little because my brother loved them. other than that, i have no interest. So anyway, that is that. I have no idea what they said in the movie anna, so I can't help :).
Yeah, she was a raging bitch that day. She got pretty damn defensive for a "casual fan." I'll never understand the mindset of those who get that riled up over a movie.
But frankly, yeah, you'd probably have to go there to get a good SW discussion on. ;) I'd ask Jeff to come comment, but I dont think you guys are talkin to him yet. ;)
