Overheard
When you mix women, alcohol and bedroom aids, pretty much anything goes. I've seen and heard some crazy things at my Pure Romance parties (which is part of the reason they're so fun). However, I overheard something last night that made me laugh really hard. Now, perhaps this was taken out of context--and maybe you had to be there--but as I was taking orders in the back bedroom, the following snippet of conversation wafted down the hall to us:
"And he told me, 'Put your shirt back on!' and I said, 'But I just took it off!!' "

Got pole?
Alternate title: Grab life by the pole
I'm going to start doing in-home pole dancing parties.
Now, as Dave pointed out, this will be made significantly more difficult by the fact that I, myself, don't technically know HOW to pole dance. Plus, I don't have a pole.
But I will soon (on both points).
It all started last week when I saw a news broadcast about in-home "sex industry" parties. One of my fellow Pure Romance sisters was featured and the link was posted on our message boards. The other girl featured in the story was with a company called Pole Lot of Fun and--you guessed it--she did in-home pole dancing parties. She brings the pole, the music, the feather boas, everything.
I, of course, thought the idea was FANTASTIC so I immediately sent a request to the company asking for a local instructor to contact me. I received an email back saying that unfortunately, they had NO ONE in this part of the state and in fact, they only had one in the entire state of Florida. "However," the woman continued, "this could be an AMAZING business opporunity for you, if you're interested."
Hmm. Teach women to pole dance? "Yeah, um, I've never pole danced," I logically wrote back. "Plus I could stand to lose 10 pounds. AND, I'm a TEACHER," I also threw in for good measure. Teachers don't pole dance, for Pete's sake!
Well, they do now. That email kicked off a flurry of emails. After talking to her extensively and doing a lot of research (about the company, how it works, etc), I started to realize that this could potentially become HUGE. An informal "market survey" sent out to the 300+ Myspace ladies linked to my Pure Romance page confirmed it--the demand for this is off the charts. Seriously. I couldn't BELIEVE how many women were interested in this--and the fact that I COULD stand to lose 10 lbs, am a teacher and have never pole danced made me all that more appealing to them. "We'd much rather learn from you," wrote one woman, "than take lessons from some young, hot, incredibly fit chick."
Um....thanks?
But she's right. Seeing an "average" woman up there will show the other ladies that, yes, EVERYONE really can do this. After all, would you rather open a fashion magazine and see all these super-thin waifs or see a "real woman" (with actual curves and everything?). It's that same principle.
So I started to seriously figure out how I could make this work. The company has an instructional DVD that teaches the various moves (or, as we in the biz say, "tricks" and "poses") to the would-be instructors. The woman I've been dealing with--a mid-30s stay-at-home mom, FYI), swears UP AND DOWN that the DVD is easy to follow, the moves are pretty easy to master and that yes, it IS possible to learn to pole dance from a DVD.
(Yeah, okay.)
Then, I go out and the women at my parties those same moves. At the end of the night, for the grand finale, each woman puts on her own show.
As far as in-home parties go, this one is even BETTER than, say, Pure Romance. You get paid based on how many people are THERE, not how many decide to buy something. There are two ways to charge: you can either charge per party (usually $200-400 , depending on market demand and saturation), and then girls divide that out among themselves for a per-person rate--or you can just charge per participant ($25-45--again, depending on the market).
I already have 4 parties scheduled for my coming-out month of September. I offered a discounted rate for my first 3 parties--$25 per person with the hostess being free. (I figured they should get a discount for being my "test parties," allowing me to work out the kinks, smooth out my presentation, etc.). Normally, I'm going to charge $35 a person (unless I decide to go with the per-party rate; I haven't decided yet). I figured I can get away with $35 because the demand IS so high and I'm the only person in the area, but maybe I'll go down a bit. But I'm going to run an incentive stating that if the hostess has at least 10 girls there (not counting herself) I'll drop it to $30 per person and she can dance for free--that way I'm guaranteed at least $300 per party and she'll work that much harder to get people there.
This is even better money than with Pure Romance--plus, there's no orders to fill, stock to carry around, etc.
So...I did a LOT of research on poles (if you want advice, let me know--I'm quite knowledgable now); I found a great one on eBay for a decent rate (they're expensive but I enrolled in this program that will allow me to make payments--although I can make back the money for the pole in the first party), I ordered the DVD and I figure I'll begin "training" here in the next 7-10 days. That gives me a month to get pole-ready by my first party scheduled for Sept 7.

The most money you can make in one night with your clothes on!
Hey, if anyone out there is interested: Pure Romance just announced this special thing they're running in May: a $149 starter kit. I'm telling you first-hand that you can EASILY make $200 + at each party, which can make some NICE extra cash for you and your families. Even doing a party or two a month could make a difference. Whether you're a single mom, stay-at-home mom or have a job and would just like some extra "fun money," this could be a great chance to get started for a LOT less than it usually takes.
If it's something you might be interested in, we can even try to work something out so you don't have to pay anything (or very little) out of pocket to get started; you can have a book party or something and I'd give you the proceeds to use towards your kit.
No matter where you are geographically, I can work with you and help you get started. Here's a flier: if you'd like more info, you know where to find me. (Even if YOU aren't interested but you know someone who may be, let me know.) Seriously, it's fun AND it's really good money. Pure Romance update
After receiving my kit in early March, I had my "coming out" party this past weekend. I invited a bunch of teachers and had a dry run at doing the PR Consultant thing again. I told them that the night wasn't so much about selling stuff, it was to give me a chance to go through my demo again and get in some practice before doing "real" parties. I had a great turn-out, though: it was probably about 12 altogether. Total sales at the party were only about $130, but then the orders started flowing in on Monday: my final amount was over $400. At first I was feeling like my demo sucked and that's why no one wanted anything, but since so many of them ordered afterwards, I think it probably had more to do with them not wanting their coworkers to know they were ordering, period. =-) (Although the most "prim and proper" teacher was the first one into my ordering room on Saturday night, which was funny. As she was leaving, I casually called out, "Okay, Amy, so I'll get that double-headed dildo in for you as soon as I can," and I thought she was just going to DIE.)
However, I didn't get any parties booked that night: mostly because--sadly--most of us don't really HAVE a lot of outside friends, because so many of us are relatively new to the area. So I need to start rustling up more "cold" parties, which is hard. After reading the PR message boards, though, I came across an idea that I never would have thought of. Many consultants said that they had a LOT of luck by setting up a Myspace page for their business to reach women in their area. I set mine up on Sunday night (complete with a false testimonial from Nee, LOL), starting contacting ladies--and I have 3 women interested in having a party in the immediate future and a few others interested a bit down the road (one is moving right now, for example, but wants to have one in May). Not a bad start. I don't have them OFFICIALLY booked yet, but I think they were sincere when they said that they had to talk to friends, check schedules and get back to me.

Checking in
Things have been very busy lately. Last week, we had the FCATs, the big standardized test here in FL. They're a BIG deal around here, as it determines how we're doing as a school, our rating and even our funding (to a certain extent).
We're done with those now (at least middle school is), but now I have yearbook keeping me busy (it's supposed to be done at the end of the month, but I have no freakin' idea how we're going to get it finished in time since kids keep dropping out for sports, etc); the school spelling bee is next week (I'm the middle school coordinator)....oh, and I just realized that the BIG spelling bee, to be held across the state in April (the one that our top 3 finalists from next week's school bee will compete in, along with students from all over the state from different schools in our charter school "company") is the same day as the March of Dimes walk that I signed our school up for/organized a team for. Oops. (I HOPE I can get one of the other teachers to go with my middle school kids to the spelling bee, but since that probably won't happen, I'll have to contact the other walkers and say, "Okay, I know I got you all to sign up for this walk, but now I won't be there because of the spelling bee....will you still do the walk anyway?" Then I'll have to contact those who pledged me and see if their contribution can still be applied to my school's team, assuming we'll still have one, or if they would like a refund if I end up not walking.
We also have other things keeping us busy this week and next--parent conferences, report cards, etc--but these are the main things on MY plate. Oh, and not to mention getting started back up with Pure Romance and trying to get parties book so I have a head start for the summer (not to mention money for NOW).
Oh yeah, and there's still my work with Soldiers' Angels.
And seeing Dave quite a bit, mostly on weekends.

By the way
I'm using my tax refund to get back into Pure Romance. I figure that this way, I'll be spending it on something will actually, in turn, bring more money in, which I need for various medical bills and dental work (specifically a couple of crowns, which are still really expensive even WITH insurance). And, if all goes well, then THIS could be my summer job. I sure made enough before, and since I'll be able to devote myself to it full time over the summer, I should be able to pull in at LEAST a party or two a week. I make about as much that way as I would doing like a full 20 hours a week at your typical retail place (I was only going to work part time over the summer, since I'll still have my full teaching paycheck coming in).
Renee, if you still have some of those HGP letters, fliers, etc, I'll need those again. Thanks!
