Celebrity baby names

Amy Poehler from SNL had her baby yesterday.

She named it (him) ARCHIE.

That's it. Celebrities are officially no longer allowed to name their own kids.* I mean, you expect weird shit out of certain celebs (Gwenyth Paltrow, anyone?), but when someone like Amy Poehler suddenly loses her damn mind, drastic action needs to be taken.

* (No offense to the many Archies out there who undoubtedly read this blog.)

LOL. I KNOW!

Now, I have kind of a soft spot for the name Archie because that was my great-grandpa's name. Not that I ever knew him; he passed away well before my parents were even married, but my grandpa looked JUST like him, so I assume he was as wonderful as my grandpa was :-) What? That's a perfectly reasonable conclusion to come to.

HOWEVER, people WERE named Archie back then. Why do celebs insist on names that will only serve to either get their kids mercilessly made fun of or get their asses kicked on a regular basis? It's rude. And unfortunately, Archie is pretty mild. And at least it's a REAL, albeit dorky, name. Unlike APPLE, for example.

OOH. My sister was telling me the other day that Penn Jilette (of Penn and Teller) named his daughter Moxie CrimeFighter. I'd rather be Archie any day.

Yeah, exactly. If you were born, like, 80 years ago or your best friend is named Jughead, then sure, Archie is a great name.

Have you heard about the couple in New Zealand who were charged with child abuse because they named their daughter Tallulah Does The Hula From Hawaii. If I remember correctly, the parents lost custody of her and the little girl was so embarrassed by her name that she told everybody her name was Sue (or something like that). So, it's not just celebrities who are frickin morons when it comes to naming their kids.

Maybe they'll have more kids and name them all after Archie Comic characters so they'll have Jughead, Veronica, Betty...
