Indoctrination

After months of talking about New Kids on the Block to my students, I finally played their new song, Summertime, in class this week. The boys, of course, professed to hating it, but most of the girls liked it.

Then, on Friday, just to "compare and contrast" (see? It was educational, too!), I played The Right Stuff. I figured they would mock it mercilessly but, to my surprise, a lot of them really liked it. "It's got a good beat," one of them explained, bobbing her head.

That's what I'M talking about. Bringing in a whole new generation of fans, one Florida classroom at a time.

LOL! Brent's teacher made the class watch them on the Today show last Friday. Kristina's son's teacher went a little crazy, wearing her hair in a banana clip, pegging her jeans and making them listen to it. I don't get THAT whole thing, cuz by the time NKOTB were around, banana clips weren't. I equate New Kids with early 90's (it was the summer between 6th and 7th grade when we went to their concert, which would have made it... 1990?)

Educational. Right. Kind of like when I try to get my kids to like Bruce Springsteen.
