New Kids on the Block

Best. Night. Ever.

(Disclaimer: These would have been better pics if I hadn't kept forgetting about the freakin' ZOOM FEATURE on my damn cell phone.)

In the forefront: JOEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You should have heard me when he first came out. Seriously, I think I screamed so hard that I peed a little.

Still hangin' tough...
I apologize for the blurriness of this last pic; that's what happens when you try to be a Stealth Ninja after a couple of shots. Yes, my friends, she IS sporting head-to-toe day-glo green and pink (please note the headband and the belt).

Details (of COURSE) to follow...

But Kish, you're going to have a BLAST.

Hangin in

The spelling bee is done and over with, so that's good. Now I have to accompany the winners to our company-wide spelling bee in April (the last couple of years, it's been held at one of our schools across the state but this year, it's in OUR hood--whoot! West Coast, bitches! LOL. I'm so gangsta). One of my boys got 3rd for the elementary bee, so that's cool.

We are entering our last week of FCAT prep, and then testing begins the week after that. In 5th grade, we have a reading test, 2 math tests and a science test--so my students are testing almost the whole week. And after that, we can go back to actually TEACHING again. Thank God I have my New Kids concert that week--my light at the end (well, middle of, technically) the tunnel. A concert (and late night) in the middle of this incredibly major week is actually not ideal, but--IT'S NEW KIDS!!!! I don't think you guys realize how MAJOR this is for me. (LOL--is that sad?)

Otherwise...I'm hanging in there. Still struggling with some stuff but hell, who isn't, right? I'll come out all right.

How's everyone out there?

Yeah, I'm alive

I've gotten a couple of "Where the hell are you?" emails in the last day or two, so I figured I should check in. I'm out here, just busy and--as I'm sure you will all find shocking--sick.

1) We had grades due for our report cards at the end of last week, so I was working on that for a few days. Report cards go home tomorrow; I expect to hear from Crazy Parent again by tomorrow evening. Yay.

2) I somehow ended up at the rodeo on Saturday night. A friend and I actually were on our way to the Monster Truck show, but we decided that that wasn't QUITE redneck enough for us. (Just kidding. The Monster Trucks actually sold out, but--lucky for us--there was a rodeo like half a mile up the road, so we figured hell, why not. (No, seriously. I even have the Tshirt--and the confederate flag shot glass--to prove it.) And I'll be damned if it didn't turn out to be a lot of fun. It would HAVE to be, with "cow tail decorating" as an actual event. Hellz yeah!

3) It was around this time in the weekend that I started to feel really, really crappy. One not-so-short visit to the ER later and, whaddya know, I have bronchitis. Awesome.

4) Some of my kids came running in this morning with the news that New Kids on the Block IS COMING TO FORT MYERS!!!!!!!!! (It was funny, too--a whole bunch of former students even came down, because they know of my love for the Kids.) I missed them in the "big cities" of Tampa and Miami in November...so now they're coming to ME. Tickets go on sale Saturday morning. Holla!!

So...that's about it. I'm off to bed now.

Hell yeah

Well, it's not the New Kids of old...but I feel a huge comeback coming on. Tell me this doesn't sound like the stuff that's on the radio today. They're about to win over a whole new generation.

PS--to play without interference from music player down below, just hit the pause (double bar) button on the player (upper left, I think)

Indoctrination

After months of talking about New Kids on the Block to my students, I finally played their new song, Summertime, in class this week. The boys, of course, professed to hating it, but most of the girls liked it.

Then, on Friday, just to "compare and contrast" (see? It was educational, too!), I played The Right Stuff. I figured they would mock it mercilessly but, to my surprise, a lot of them really liked it. "It's got a good beat," one of them explained, bobbing her head.

That's what I'M talking about. Bringing in a whole new generation of fans, one Florida classroom at a time.

*Dreamy sigh*

SO freakin' hot. And even if this whole thing is "sad," they drew one of the biggest crowds in Today show history--almost as many as Bruce Springsteen.

I've played that video from my last post so often that I almost have the song memorized.

I *heart* New Kids on the Block!

The First New Kids on the Block Photo in 15 Years...

...was just posted in a Yahoo story, and I'll be damned if they don't look the same as they did back in the day. Eerily so.

They'll be on the Today show on Friday discussing "rumors" of a reunion tour. Please. If they WEREN'T doing it, would they be releasing publicity shots? (Renee, can you watch or tape it and report back?) =-)
