So early, it actually hurts

I've been somewhat inactive in Blog World this last week because I have officially been "back to school" (the kids come back on Monday). I've been pretty busy getting my room ready in the midst of all the pointless trainings and in-services they have us attending.

The Mother of All Pointless Trainings is tomorrow. We have to LEAVE SCHOOL at 5:30 (yes, in the morning), so I have to be up at 4:15. We're driving all the way to the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe and Casino for our company Summit. Now, this had the POTENTIAL to be cool--it's at a CASINO, for Pete's sake!!!! However, WE won't be in the casino. No, we'll be sitting in a rah-rah pep rally the whole day. The ONLY redeeming quality is that the guest speaker this year is Ron Clark, another god in the teaching world (last year, it was Harry Wong, a name that will mean nothing to you if you're not in the education field, but WE were pretty excited). Ron Clark was portrayed by Matthew Perry in a TNT movie last year, if some of you caught that. (It was actually pretty good.)

So that'll be my day. We aren't expected back to the school till 7:30 or so tomorrow night. It'll be a LONG day--and maybe an hour of that will be valuable to us.

Yay.

Sounds fun :-( Your night owl ass should just stay up and not even go to bed that night :-)

It was actually not a bad day. The morning speakers were boring...and then Ron Clark came on. OH MY GOD he is the most dynamic speaker I've ever heard. We were ENTHRALLED. He's funny and entertaining...he grabbed your attention the minute he bounded on stage and didnt let go. He was up there an hour and a half but it felt like 5 minutes. I'll put it this way: his speech actually included the sentence "Crackheads are CRAZY, y'all!!" (He was telling stories about his teaching experiences in the inner city.) Anyway, I bought his newer book and stood in line to have it signed. I got to talk to him one on one for almost a minute, which is a long time in Book Signing Line World. He was truly interested in me and what I had to say.

Anyway, after that it was pretty much downhill. We had lunch and then I snuck off to the casino. =-) They don't have BLACKJACK though, which was really odd. So I played some slots and actually left UP a buck seventy five. (When I say "a buck," I'm not talking Casino Lingo for a HUNDRED and seventy five, either. I left one dollar and seventy five cents richer.) I had actually been up like $7 at one point but of course I didn't leave when I should have.

So yeah, most of my afternoon was wsalking around and saying hi to the other teachers who were also playing hooky. Good times.

Oh, and my table won the cool gift baskets they were raffling off, too.

4:15 is a time when no one should be up anywhere for any reason. The people who stay up late should go to sleep by then and the people who get up early should still be sleeping. No one needs to see the world between 3am and 5am on the outsides. This I believe.
