I'm moving to Florida- who's coming with me?

Seriously, I'm REALLY thinking about it. I went to a job fair for one of the local districts this morning, and there are just SO many people competing for what amounts to a handful of available positions. There were a few people in line with me (it's like Cedar Point; you wait in line for an hour for a 4-minute ride) who are returning to Michigan after leaving for a year or two to gain experience in other states like Florida, North Carolina, etc. They all verified what I already know; there are a LOT of positions available in other parts of the country, particularly down South and out West.

Sure, I wouldn't know anyone and have any friends. But I could also drown my sorrows on the beaches. In November. Plus, I'd be tan and skinny (because I'd be able to work out outside ALL YEAR ROUND).

As we speak, I'm putting my resume up on teachinflorida.com. Yes, it'd be scary as hell to pack up all of my stuff and start over in a new place without knowing anyone. But I've done it before (college, although that was only 3 hours away). And I've been talking for YEARS about wanting to get out of Michigan for a while and live somewhere else. Somewhere warm. Maybe this is the time for me to actually do it.

Of course, I'd feel a lot better if someone came with me. Missy? Nikki?

You know Fred and Rich! And your grandparents :-) My cousin, Kevin, moved to FL for teaching as well. He's engaged, so don't go THERE, but his woman is really cool. If you're in their area, maybe you could get together with them :-) But you'll be SO far AWAY! :-( LOL. But it WOULD be nice to have a girls weekend (or week) in Florida in the winter :-)

Um, and Tyson and you? I think it would be a brave and wonderful experience for you and if you really feel it in your heart, go for it. And hell yeah, gives us a reason to come visit Florida and crash at your place :). Good luck and we are all here for you!

Well, I figure, if he goes to grad school for the next couple of years, then I can go play in Florida while I'm waiting. =-) No, but seriously, I told him (after announcing that I wanted to move to FL, which seemed to surprise him) that if we were meant to be together, then we would be, whether it's now or down the road.

And we had a GREAT night together tonight. I went to his place for the first time and made dinner (taco bake, which he really loved, thanks Nee), and I have to tell you, that his dog didn't even bother me that much. Granted, she was outside the first hour or so that I was there, but even once she came in, I was surprisingly okay. She slept in her bed in the corner and we watched a movie. I know he cleaned REALLY good during the day so I'm sure that helped, and maybe it would have been worse if I was there for more than 4 hours or so, but so far, so good. In fact, I've never been so UNaffected by a dog in my life. A sign?

I'm giddy :-) I've been dying to know how it went-- woo hoo!!!

LOL..."giddy"?

Actually, I would be too, if it wasn't for this whole grad school thing.

:-( Now I'm pouty. I'm gonna try to call you, since I haven't talked to you in forever.

I'll get the guest bedroom ready. It's right next to the hot tub, so pack your bathing suit.

And, f you have a girls weekend down here, LoB and I are invited, right?

Fred - your wife can come, but you are a male so you have to stay home :). But we could have a night out with guys and girls :).

Oh my goodness! GO! I would love to visit you in FL! You can always come back to MI later so go out and try a new place. How exciting!

Also, I'm so glad and happily surprised at how well the visit to the dog house went! I have been with you in houses that have dogs and you've NEVER been able to stay 4 hours! Maybe it is a sign :) I like the idea that if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. Great attitude!

Anna , how about you and Tim come with me so I dont have to go alone? (Seriously, that's ALL that's stopping me. I was trying to recruit Missy to come with me last night.)

Fred and Rich, I emailed you.

Jen, you'll get to know people quickly! And depending on where you go, you MIGHT know someone, or at least be within driving distance of someone you know. John's parents are down there, too, and I know they would LOVE to entertain you. Jane asks about you often.

I would miss you, but I already don't see you much anyway. You should give it some serious consideration if you get a job offer! As Anna said-- this doesn't mean you have to live there FOREVER, if you don't want to. But I can see you falling in love with it down there and wanting to stay.

Plus, you've been saying for a long time that you wish you could help out more with your grandparents...

Well if you move to Fort Lauderdale you already have an automatic friend and someone to hang out with on the beach =)

Exactly Fred! haha

Why not North Carolina I heard it was really nice there too.

That still cracks me up that Jane asks about me "often," since I've seen her like twice. =-) I'm quite loveable, I guess.

yeah, if I get a job offer, I'd definitely go down. I'm just at the stage where I'm scared to actually apply in case I DID get a job.

Bring bug spray... This is the voice of experience from Jacksonville.

As long as I don't have to bring my boots and mittens, I'm happy.

Renee, where in FL is Kevin again?

Renee said...

Kevin in in Newport Richie (sp?), Brick and Jane are in Sebring, which I *think* is between Orlando and Tampa, but I can't find my atlas, so don't quote me. Rich is in Ft Lauderdale, then you have Fred, wherever he is, and your grandparents, wherever they are :-)

So you haven't actually applied for anything yet?

LocuTus of Borg said...

Sebring is between Tampa and Orlando and Fred is over in Tampa. Tampa and Orlando are about 3 or 4 hours from Ft. Lauderdale. I think Newport Ritchie is over on the west side - not sure about that one.

Jen said...

Yeah, I havent dared to apply yet. What if they call for an interview? Would I have to go DOWN there? Then what if I get hired? I'd have to actually MOVE. LOL. I'm still in the "working up the nerve" phase.

Melissa said...

Honestly Jen if I had the money I would seroiusly consider going with you.

Melissa said...

Holy shit - this guy I work with just pledged $100.00 each for me and Nikki. Thats my goal. thats tits right there. Thanks Mike

Jen said...

Holy crap!! That's awesome Missy!!!

And you'll have TIME to save money. We wouldnt go till like August. Plus, you can live with me till you find a job.

Melissa said...

Okay Jen I'll be like your pimp or something - don't forget my kids need to eat and they need cloths and things. I'll talk to you about it alittle later.

Renee said...

LOLOL Missy :-) Congrats on hitting your goal already!!
